Starmore Collecting

Today, there will be two blog entries! The excitement!

First, let’s start with pictures from the three magazines I recently bought. I’ve been on a Starmore collecting kick. It’s a damn expensive collecting kick, I have to admit.

First, I won Interweave Winter 99/00, which has the famous Jade Starmore Adult Beadwork. Unless you want to pay Virtual Yarns a zilion dollars for the kit, this Interweave magazine is the only place you can get it.

(Note - I used auto correction on these pictures, so colors may go completely wonky.)

It’s a gorgeous design, but knit on a very tight gauge with gansey yarn.

Then, I bought Vogue Knitting Fall 94 and Fall 89 from Monica.

Both issues actually have great designs beyond the starmore ones. But, the starmore ones are pretty good too. This vest is in Fall 89:

Here’s a little better picture of it:

I think its gorgeous. I love how the colors just glow. I did read that it is called “Thoroughbred”, and is also in the Scottish Collection, which is very out of print.

The design in Fall 94 isn’t quite as good:

I think the reason why I don’t like it quite as much is that its so horizontal. It’s very stripey. Also, the colors aren’t very subtle, even in the magazine. Maybe if the red bands were switched out with something more muted, I’d like it better.

I actually have both of those magazines in my basement. I suppose I could dig them out and knit the vest and maybe the sweater before I do any more whining about how very expensive the Starmore designs are to obtain.

Hi, I have been going nuts trying to find Alice Starmore yarn. Do you know of any websites where the yarn can be purchased. I love your Queen’s Anne sweater. I have admired that sweater alot over the years. I have about 7 or 8 of Alice Starmore books that I bought back when I was knitting. As you can see from my website address I have given you I kinda gotten away from my knitting. I have made a few of Alice’s Starmore sweaters. I have made St Brigid from the “Aran Knitting” book, and from her “Celtic Collection” book, I have made, Durrow and Cromarty. I have also in the past made one of “Dale of Norway” sweater designs. But Alice Starmore is my favorite designer. I am just having a hard time finding a place on the internet where I can purchase her yarn. I would love to make ” Queen’s Anne Lace” design and one I really want to make is…”Rona” from her “In the Hebrides”book. I am writing to you and to anyone else who may be reading your blog to help me. I also have a blog and that url is:
