Sheepy Sweater Day!

Guess what?   It’s Sheepy Sweater Day!

Who doesn’t like Sheepy Sweater Day?  I didn’t knit it myself - it came from the Signals catalog.  Kevin bought it for me, because he knows I love the sheepies.

In other news, Mom’s sweater is done, done, done.  Well, it will be as soon as it dries.

Okay, this is the worst picture ever.  I’ll do better, I swear.  In any case, I did add an extra inch to each arm the sides by picking up and knitting along the seams.  Then, I did a three needle bind off.  Which works very well, unless you don’t pick up the stitches evenly on one of the sides.  Then you’ll rip it out three times until you get it right.

In other news, I need to start thinking about which shawl I’m going to knit in order to turn it into a bridal veil.   Mainly, it needs to be square, and I need to be able to size it down so that it doesn’t dwarf 4′10 me.   Here are the options so far - most of them are shetland.

  1. The Spider Queen Shawl
  2. The Unst Bridal Shawl
  3. The Shetland Lace Spring Shawl
  4. The Wedding Ring Shawl
  5. The Garden Shawl
  6. Framed Cream Shawl

I think my favorite so far is The Garden Shawl, which is by the same designer who did Aimee’s Flirty Ruffles Shawl.

I think the Garden Shawl is really gorgeous, however, I think for a veil, my favorite is the Unst Bridal Shawl.

Unst! But could you ever finish it? What a fine gauge.

I think you could finish it but I couldn’t — you knit faster than I do.

Do you have any pictures of people wearing a shawl as a veil? I am having a difficult time visualizing it.

I agree with your friends. The garden shawl might be too bulky to wear on your head. The unst is beautiful but maybe you should wait to decide until you have the dress picked out. You don’t want any of the patterns or colors to clash.

Any of them are absolutely beautiful. I’m just amazed anyone can knit them. Whatever one you choose, it will be beautiful since yol do such beautiful work. I have a Blackberry Ridge shawl for you to “see”. It’s the Violets by the River.

If it’s too colorful and thick you might look like the runaway bride!

Hi. I’m currently knitting my own bridal veil (Tina from Fiddlesticks, in laceweight wool/silk) and found your blog during my hunt for advice on such things. Have you any thoughts about how you’re going to affix the shawl to your head? It was suggested that I gather mine and sew it onto a comb, though I was thinking of just using hairpins to pin it directly to an updo and perhaps adding a pretty comb over top to hide the pins.

If I were a more experienced lace knitter I’d totally go for Unst or Framed Cream in cobweb wool; they’re both gorgeous.
