I’m sorry, but…

July 8th, 2005

last night, at knitting group, we all decided that I should keep Aimee’s Wedding Shawl:

Doesn’t it look fabulous? Sorry, Aimee, you’ll have to wear this instead:

It’s the famous Martha Stewart coming home Poncho! I think it’ll go great with your dress. I’ll do it in bright pink. It’ll be great.

(For those of you desperately waiting for the Lily Chin Pose, well, that picture, not so attractive. I had no neck. So, let’s forget we ever took that picture.)

Moving on. Here’s a picture of the Dale of Norway baby sweater I’m knitting now. Warning - its not that great of a picture. I’d say that i was drunk when I took it, except I actually wasn’t. So I have no excuse.

Yes, it is bright orange. As Kevin put it, if the baby wants to go hunting, it will be set.

By the way, I added google ads this morning. Why? Because it was fun. I like seeing what pops up. I don’t expect to actually make any money off of it, and they probably won’t stick around, but, heck, it was fun.

Oh, I forgot to mention….

Flirty Ruffles is done!

It isn’t blocked yet, so it’ll get a lot more airy looking. I actually finished it last week in a marathon of ruffle knitting. I did not actually impale myself on my needles out of boredom, but it was a close thing at times.

It’s a great size now - I’m going to have to be careful to not block it too large, in case I make it too big for Aimee.

I used Zephyr Wool-Silk - making the smaller version (I left out an entire chart), it did use up probaly 1.75 skeins. The ruffle consumes a vast amount of yarn - most of what I used from the second skein was on the ruffle.

I took the above picture at work, because the carpet at work is black and grey. Plus, I’ve been too lazy to take pictures at home. So, in honor of blogging in the workplace, I offer a scary shot of part of my desk. Yes, just part.

Yeah, I’m a slob. Hee.

I’ve now moved on to knitting my Dale of Norway Hunter Orange baby sweater. It’s coming along really well - I’ll try to get a picture of it tonight. It’s knit on size 2 needles, so I feel right at home.

Finally, you can read my rant about Knitpicks over here. I might clean it up a bit and move it over here. Mainly, I don’t intend to buy from Knitpicks in the future.

(I should say something about the terrorist attacks in London today, but nothing I’m thinking in my head is really suitable for publication right now. It’s horrifying, and I hope that everyone is as fine as they can be, given the circumstances.)

My Man, the Man.

July 6th, 2005

In honor of Knitty’s The Man Issue, my lovely boyfriend, Kevin, will be guest blogging today.

Man in image not actual boyfriend.

He agreed to review the designs in Knitty.

Man in image also not actual boyfriend.

1. But even cooler guys… find women to knit for them.
2. Clearly hoping to get “Lucky”.
3. *laughs hysterically* Nothing like a little shower cap fu.
4. Captain Christopher Pike, Before the Accident.
5. Doesn’t that make your elbows sweat?
6. Did you get the Garanimals pants to go with it? (Before he saw the children’s version.)
7. Morrisey takes up golf.
8. The baby is a future painter. But pretty cute. The baby.
9. Why does he look like he would rather you were really naughty?
10. That’s just hideous! You wouldn’t give that to someone who lost their scalp in a tragic thresher accident.
11. That’s pretty mossy looking there.
12. Are they a marital aid, or something for the burn ward?
13. If you blink really fast, the stripes appear to strobe.
14. Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar, but sometimes, hey, are these things stain resistant?
15. Somewhere in this picture is an invisible Aztec.
16. Dude, your sack is really furry.

Gail back - Kevin’s comments were nicer than mine. To give you an idea, I said this about one of the designs:

“Damn, I wish she would have knit this for me _before_ we got married so I could have dumped her ass.”

Anyways, if you are looking for a sweater just like Lucky, only not insanely bulky with an ugly neckline, you want to buy the Paton Leaflet, Indigo Days, from Elann(click to see actual sweater).

Man in image still not actual boyfriend.
It’s also known on this blog as “The sweater of great boringness”, due to how you will die of boredom from all the mistake rib.

MONICA!

June 30th, 2005

You were the one with the way too bright for words Tumbling Blocks kit, right?

One is up on ebay for 26.85, with 3 days and a 11 hours to go. That’s crazy, given that it was a “free gift” with a Rowan Subscription. The subscription itself is 44 dollars, and that includes the two magazines for the year.

(I have the muted colors Tumbling Blocks kit.)

So, anyways, for people not name Monica, just enjoy the craziness of the price that kit is going for.

Fine, this will just have to be Gail’s Fabulous Enablement, eBay style. Cause I’m _still_ working on the ruffle. One and a half rows to go, and then the bind off! Aimee, don’t worry, it should be done by your wedding, unless I impale myself from boredom on the size 2 needles.

Okay, anyways, I love Rowan names. Such as Biggy Print in Troll (only going for 4.70 pounds at the time of this post for 10). The color is fun too.

I’m just posting this one because the picture of the book cracks me up.

Did people in the 80s knit anything other than oversized intarsia sweaters? Anyways, its the Rowan Designer Collection Summer Winter Knitting.

Oh, and I apologize for my very very very evil tempting very evil sale post earlier in the week. It was terribly cruel. But at least I gave in to the evil list and bought Lorna’s Laces. :)
Just to prove that I am all of you guys best friends, I shall now post a picture that will keep you firmly on your yarn diets.

Yes, its the lovely Cornmeal Color Red Heart Super Saver Yarn! All six skeins can be yours for the very low price of 11.99, plus 6.50 shipping and handling!

Oh, not scary enough for you? You are still thinking of the 25% off Lorna’s Laces, aren’t you?

Well, then, I shall pull out the big guns.

From the auction:

Auction is for 6 skeins - (picture only shows 1, but auction is for 6 skeins) of Caron Dazzleaire yarn - Frosty Mint #2643. This is a very nice shade of mint green. Picture may not show true colors. These are NEW, full and unused 3 oz. skeins of 60% Acrylic and 40% Nylon and same dye lot with wrappers. They are 4 Ply and machine washable and dryable - instructions are on label. Caron has discontinued this yarn and it is hard to find.

Yes! It is very hard to find! I wonder why there are 45 auctions running on Dazzleaire at this very moment…

Enablement! Buy! Consume!

It’s time for the every once in awhile sale post!

First, head over to WoolWinders for their full bag and book sale. They have some Noro, Rowan and Debbie Bliss at 35-40% off, for an entire bag. They also have a listing of books.

Second, Little Knits has a great 25% off sale on Lorna’s Laces and Cherry Tree Hill. She also has Shaefer Elaine on sale at 25% off. She has a bigger selection in the Helen’s Lace area than when I looked last week. I bought a skein of Tahoe off her to make my Peacock
Feathers Shawl
from Fiddlesticks Knitting.

Speaking of the Peacock Shawl, its funny how the entire internet discovered it at once. I ordered the pattern last month along with Flirty Ruffles, and suddenly, folks are talking about it everywhere.

Bo Beep’s Wool Shop is having massive sale, with 25% off all their yarns. All patterns are also 50% off. (There were some somewhat negative reviews of this store on Knitters Review - mainly, dealing with backorders.)

In knitting land, I’m still working on the ruffle. The never ending ruffle. I’d take a picture, but it just looks like a big lump right now. I am on the garter stitch border, so perhaps, maybe, I’ll finish this week. I hope so. I swear, the ruffle is taking longer than the body of the shawl.
